Churches for your wedding in Tenerife

Some couples don't want a beach or a garden for their wedding in Tenerife. They want a room that goes quiet when the door closes.

A church wedding in Tenerife is possible, in English or German. In the chapel in Las Américas a celebrant leads a symbolic ceremony, with no religious requirements. In the churches in Puerto de la Cruz and Los Cristianos, the church's own priest conducts the ceremony.

The legal side is simplest at home: most couples register their marriage before they travel, and the church ceremony here is the celebration itself. The three churches we introduce here could hardly be more different, from the little hotel chapel in Las Américas to the large church in Puerto de la Cruz. The chapel and the church in Puerto de la Cruz both welcome LGBTQ+ weddings.

01 · Las Américas

Chapel in Las Américas: a small church for up to 30 guests

This little chapel belongs to a five-star hotel in Las Américas and seats up to 30 guests. It's a quiet, private setting for a symbolic ceremony with a church atmosphere. Right next to the chapel is a sea-view terrace that you can reserve exclusively for your wedding. You welcome your guests there with a welcome drink and enjoy a barbecue buffet afterwards, in a private, relaxed atmosphere. You'll find more about the hotel on our hotel weddings page.

02 · Puerto de la Cruz

Church in Puerto de la Cruz: a large church in the north, from two people

In Puerto de la Cruz, in the green north of Tenerife, there's an impressive church for weddings of any size. Whether you marry as a couple on your own or celebrate with a large group, almost anything is possible here. Ceremonies are Catholic or Protestant, in English or German. After the ceremony we arrange the transfer for you and your guests to the reception. Five-star hotels in Puerto de la Cruz are especially popular, with a festive reception and an elegant dinner.

03 · Los Cristianos

Church in Los Cristianos: in the heart of town

This large church sits in the heart of Los Cristianos, in the sunny south of the island, and suits weddings with many guests. The Catholic priest of the church conducts the ceremony, in English or German. Afterwards, the transfer we arrange takes you and your guests to the venue you've chosen, whether an elegant dinner, a relaxed reception or a celebration by the sea. You enjoy the day without any of the organising.

How we work

Church wedding in Tenerife: how the planning works

In the first call we work out how many guests are coming, whether you'd rather marry in the north or the south, and where you want to celebrate afterwards. We plan the church and the reception together, so timings, distances and transport all fit. If you're on the island beforehand, we'll visit the churches with you, and if you can't travel beforehand, we'll send you all the pictures and details by email, and a video tour is possible on request.

We deal with the church directly: date, time, music and what's permitted inside, all agreed with the priest, confirmed in writing and coordinated with your reception venue. You won't have to deal with the parish yourselves, and you won't be left wondering whether something has actually been booked.

In the chapel, a celebrant from our close network of local professionals leads a symbolic ceremony in English or German, with your own words rather than a set liturgy. In Puerto de la Cruz a Catholic priest or a Protestant minister conducts the ceremony, in Los Cristianos a Catholic priest, in English or German. We go through what applies in your individual case. Flowers, music and photographer come from our network. Church ceremonies are symbolic too, so you register your marriage legally beforehand.

If you'd like, we also arrange a wedding car for you and buses for your guests, working with a transport company.

What a church wedding costs depends on the church, your reception venue, your guest numbers and your budget, and we go through it in the first call, with no obligation. We'll tell you honestly which church suits your plans. Church and reception are part of our full wedding planning, so we coordinate both together.

Good to know

Church weddings in Tenerife: common questions

Is a church ceremony in Tenerife legally binding?

The ceremony in the church is symbolic. Most couples register their marriage at home before they travel, which is the simplest way to make it legal.

Do we need to belong to a church?

Not for the symbolic ceremony in the chapel in Las Américas. In the churches in Puerto de la Cruz and Los Cristianos the priest conducts the ceremony, and we'll go through what applies with you in your individual case.

Can same-sex couples marry in the church?

Yes, LGBTQ+ weddings are welcome in the chapel in Las Américas and in the church in Puerto de la Cruz. In the church in Los Cristianos, unfortunately, it isn't possible.

From start to finish we had no stress in organising, Doris went above and beyond to give us and our guests the most unforgettable wedding day. Thank you very much we couldn't have had the most special day we could ask for without you. We would highly recommend Doris to anyone as a wedding planner
